TEAM BONDING

Being a part of the media program and being a journalist has provided me with many incredible opportunities. Now that I am a senior editor, I have a large portion of responsibilities for the entire program. With the leadership role, I have a certain degree of responsibility to create opportunities to bring the editors and staff together. I learned from our program's traditions and created new ones of my own. Below I have attached some significant team bonding events and a collage of my favorite moments in MV Media.

This is our first MVM tradition of the year, a scavenger hunt and cook out at Newt's house. It is a fun way to get the staff together, creating friendships early in the year.

This is a photo of me at a work night. We invite the staff to come work on the yearbook, newsmagazine or a piece of content of their own. We encourage our staff to come enjoy pizza and music while working on bettering our program.

It may seem insignificant to some, but being recognized by editors and mentors was important. I even have the poster hanging on my bulletin board in my bedroom.

This year, the editors, Newt and I traveled downtown to meet with the deputy editor, Lindsey Koehler, from 5280 Magazine. We learned about their news process and got tips to improve our own magazine. It was something I truly enjoyed, seeing how it all works in a situation larger than high school. This was followed by an improv learning course and show.

Although attending our county and state conventions are insightful, cheaper and easier to go to, going to the national conventions has been the highlight of my time in the media program. My first national journalism convention was in the fall of 2016 in Indianapolis. It was a unique way to bond with my classmates and learn from professionals.

It was hard to compile just a few of my crazy, exciting experiences that being a part of MVM has given me. So below I've attached a collage of some of the best moments I've captured.

Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.
